And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
Mark 9:23-24 (ESV)
Dear Lord,
Help my unbelief. I lift my voice with the same desperate cry of the father in the story. “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
It’s easy to believe when things are going well. It’s easy to sing while the sun shines. Believing while everything that I hold dear seems to be under threat, when things are falling out of my control, that’s when it’s hard to believe, Lord. Help my unbelief.
You are powerful and good and holy. You are the beginning and the end. You, who quieted the storm, who healed the sick and cast out demons, You who was raised back to life and seated at the right hand of God, You are capable. I believe it! Help my unbelief!
Do not let me fall back into the misery of doubt and faithlessness. I pray that You would take my hand and guide me through the darkness. Through the endless sorrows that plague me day after day. Lord, I pray that You would guide me and my child out from all this pain and despair, because I believe that You are the one who saves. Help my unbelief.
In Jesus name, Amen.
